Whether you have infants, kids or preteens, Sugar Land has the place for them to learn, play and have fun: the Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center. This interactive 12,000-square-foot space features a wide range of activities that are as educational as they are entertaining. Families visiting Sugar Land shouldn’t miss the chance to explore the center’s year-round exhibits and special events.
Let your kids "shop" at HEB within Kidtropolis.
Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center provides hands-on exhibits that promote growth while keeping kids engaged and entertained. Different areas of the museum focus on safe play for different age groups: for example, the “Tot Spot” exhibit is geared toward babies and toddlers, and it includes activities like bubble tubes, a padded area with mirrored walls, a “Toddler Walk” to help new walkers explore their balance and speed, a toy car ramp, and much more.
For school-aged children, Kidtropolis, USA is a crowd favorite. This immersive exhibit allows kids to “run” their own mini-city by taking “jobs,” working to earn Kidtropolis money, voting on decisions that shape the community, and exploring replicas of city structures sponsored by local businesses.
There are also science-based exhibits, a fairytale section emphasizing storytelling, and more!
The events calendar at Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center is regularly updated with carefully curated activities that add extra fun to its evergreen exhibits. Enjoy weekly themed WonderWeeks that feature art, science and math activities, and Sensory-Friendly Day, where dimmed lights and calming sounds create a peaceful space for children with autism.
If you’d like to host your own gathering, the center offers group and field trip opportunities. You can also host birthday parties there for up to 15 children. You’ll enjoy museum admission for up to 15 kids and up to 15 adults, along with a party room with chairs and tables. You’re welcome to bring a cake, snacks, drinks and goody bags. Check the center’s website for pricing.
Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Admission for adults and children over the age of one is $15, admission for seniors is $14, and babies under one can attend for free. You can sign up for museum membership to enjoy added perks, like free admission year-round and party package discounts. All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult, and no adults are admitted unless accompanied by a child.
Enjoy free parking in the Imperial Market lot and along Kempner Street. If you or your kids get hungry, you can purchase beverages and light refreshments at the Discovery Center, but no outside food is permitted.
